Commanders show a fearsome, potent combination of strict rationalism and determination which they use to form their ideas and plans. They convincingly present them to others and persuade them to join in. This type highly values logic and reason and uses them devotedly to contrast different ideas and theories to one another, judging their worth. This creates their vision of what – and how – things should be done.

When faced with an idea, proposal, or solution, Commanders thoroughly analyze it to find any problems. They not only offer this evaluation to others but also their vision of a better (or more appropriate) solution. Because of Commanders’ confidence, thoroughness, and far-sightedness, other people tend to be drawn to them and are even willing to let them take the steering wheel while participating in their initiatives.

This is often a good thing, as Commanders are outspoken and willing to challenge others to explain and defend their words, actions, or ideas. They readily point out flaws in someone’s argument or inconsistencies in their logic, but not out of malice. This type sees reason and truth as being of paramount importance, and honestly and bluntly share their insight into whatever they’re facing.

This directness rarely includes sugar-coated words or steps to ensure they don’t offend. Commanders tend to believe that personal emotions have no place in a discussion or an argument (especially an important one), and decisions should be made on reason, analysis, and insight rather than intuition or personal sentiment. In a way, Commanders expect others to act like adults and not get offended when someone makes a point without hand-holding.

Although Commanders aren’t necessarily stubborn, it’s not easy to change their minds. They put great thought and effort into their plans, ideas, and views, so it’s rare to bring something to their attention they haven’t already considered. Commanders’ goals are efficiency and effectiveness, and such firm objectives lend conviction to their arguments. The force and charisma they apply often have their opposition agreeing or simply giving in.

Commanders may not build a reputation for gentle warmth, but their ability to discern ideas that make sense from those that don’t is impressive. Their effectiveness in achieving objectives through careful, far-sighted planning is second to none. Such qualities, coupled with their ability to make their own proposals sound impressive, tend to make Commanders’ visions and goals likely to be adopted by everyone.

While empathy may not be their strength, Commanders respect those who show effective use of reason and logic. They value in others what they value in themselves, and even expect it from them. This type understands that their success rides on the willingness of others to work with them, and they give recognition where it’s due. This, along with their high standards, makes Commanders effective in managing people around a shared goal.

Their reputation may make them seem dour or intimidating, but Commanders actually enjoy interacting with others quite a bit. They have a great time getting together with friends and colleagues to share lively conversation and company. As long as that company is more thick-skinned than average, Commanders’ thoughts, energy, and charisma can flow freely to produce great results.
