Debater (VSE-C)
Debaters are socially outgoing types who enjoy discussing various views and notions with others. They connect different ideas to support their proposals and deconstruct opposing reasoning to find its weak spots. Debaters are curious individuals who value rationality, and they love applying their minds to new concepts to expand their understanding and knowledge.
They rarely keep this knowledge to themselves. Debaters gladly discuss their thoughts and opinions with others and aren’t shy even if they’re more of a sketch than fully developed ideas. Debaters like to test and defend their concepts, letting them be examined and questioned by others. Contrasting opinions help them explore the topic at hand and improve their intellectual prowess.
This practice of gaining insight and understanding through different angles sometimes leads Debaters to play devil’s advocate. This helps them not only develop a better sense of others’ reasoning but a better understanding of opposing ideas. This type believes there’s no better way to gain deep insight than to pointedly attack and defend an idea – thus their apt name.
This attitude makes Debaters confident non-conformists. They value competency, intellectual independence, and reasoned logic over social status or authority, appreciating people who can hold their own with clear thinking and sensible arguments. This type has little regard for those who merely reach for emotional arguments or feel offended when someone questions their ideas or views.
Although they may at times seem unassailable, Debaters aren’t too attached to any one view. Their flexible minds can shift between ideas and draw on their accumulated knowledge to prove their points or challenge those of others, but also to change or discard notions that no longer make sense. Such mental nimbleness can make it difficult to distinguish their deep beliefs from that which they offer for the sake of discussion and exploration.
This hardly matters, though, given their constructive output. Having little attachment to tradition, Debaters combine their knowledge and originality to open every aspect of a subject. They pull together different concepts and apply creativity to formulate bold new ideas, while enticing others to discuss possibilities. In any group, these types contribute not only creative solutions but energetic drive.
