Counselor (VSE-S)
Counselors are optimistic, positive individuals who enjoy engaging and interacting with others in an atmosphere of companionship. They value authenticity and tolerance and are energized both in mind and spirit by friendly social engagement. Getting to know others’ views, ideas, and beliefs inspire their insight and understanding of themselves and the world at large.
Such connections can be on a deeper level as well. Counselors are genuinely interested in how other people feel and see the world and tend to believe there’s some truth to every outlook. They feel that trying to understand different attitudes and mindsets serves to broaden their horizons and even deepen their understanding of their place in the world.
Through this kind of engagement with other people, Counselors explore and expand their ideas and beliefs. They take in what other people think and feel, contrasting it with other principles and understanding – including their own. This type doesn’t feel a need to cling to their old beliefs and views, which they understand are only the product of their life experience thus far. They use this process to continually evolve their perspective.
And though they have these deep perspectives, Counselors are open-minded and very tolerant, believing everyone has the right to hold and voice their own authentic opinion, regardless of whether someone else likes it or not. They value everyone’s input and point of view and put in great effort to try and understand the reasoning and motives behind people’s ideas and actions.
This comes from having a desire for harmony rather than a judgemental attitude. Considerate and empathetic, Counselors dislike conflict and try to avoid causing offense. Because of their warmth and sincerity, other people enjoy being around Counselors, often willing to come out of their shells and open up. This type can be surprisingly persistent in their efforts to get to know even the most reserved personalities.
Counselors place great importance on authenticity and self-determination, believing that no one has a right to tell someone else how to think or feel. They dislike when people try to dominate others or show blatant disregard for their rights. This type puts their hearts into human connections, getting involved in the lives of friends and loved ones, and trying to be supportive even if they don’t always agree with them.
But when they do find something agreeable, they think nothing of diving in fully. This personality type readily takes on work that relates to their values – and if it’s a cooperative effort, all the better. Counselors are happy to put in a lot of time and energy working on things they feel strongly about, and love sharing such goals with other passionate individuals.
Because of their positivity, unpretentiousness, and genuine interest and kindness toward people, others readily join in with them. Counselors tend to be liked by almost everyone – they make great confidants as they can be trusted with anything, and they energetically contribute valuable insight and assistance on nearly any situation or project.
